How can I interpret the data shown in the app

The application merely displays the data the ECU is able to report upon, for further details on how to interpret this information and steps to solve issues, the TVRDiagnosticManual is a great resource. We are not engine diagnostics or repair experts ourselves and cannot advise on the mechanical side of things.

How do I report an issue with my engine monitoring system?

To report an issue, kindly email contact@rsiajp.com and we will get back to you promptly to resolve the issue.

How does this work?

The MBE ECU has a serial port which enables data transmission with electronic devices such as computers.
A bluetooth adapter available from here enables serial communication with the ECU over bluetooth.
The RSiAJP app communicates with the ECU via the bluetooth adapter, enabling wireless communication with the ECU.

Bluetooth or BLE?

BLE stands for Bluetooth Low Energy and is suitable for short range communications over bluetooth, it is the only protocol in the Bluetooth family that Apple allows use of without going through hardware approval for non BLE devices.
There is no need to pair the adapter with the phone, the connection happens automatically when the adapter is powered on and the app is running.

What about shipping?

I ship from France using a tracked and signed-for service. I will share the tracking information.

Import duties may be payable for shipments to countries outside of the European Union.

Note, this is not may day job, I always endeavour to ship as soon as possible, but may not be able to get to the post office the very next day, I will keep you informed of any delays in shipping if necessary.

I also travel for business from time to time, meaning that orders could take a week or longer to ship if I happen to be away when you place your order.

Many thanks for your patience.

What do I need?

  • A Bluetooth adapter from the shop which comes with a USB-A power cable
  • The RSiAJP app from the Apple app store
  • A cigarette lighter to USB-A adapter, note that it is possible to permanently wire the adapter into an ignition switched and fused 12V supply as an alternative.
  • A data lead, check your wiring harness for a 3 pin plug which is typically available on 2000+ cars, older cars require a male-female DB-9 serial cable to connect to the ECU once its lid is removed.

Note that I do not supply the cigarette lighter or data cables.

Are there any resources for troubleshooting?

The application merely displays the data the ECU is able to report upon, for further details on how to interpret this information and steps to solve issues, the TVRDiagnosticManual is a great resource. What do I do with the adapter?

First, you need to power the adapter which can be done with a cigarette lighter socket to USB-A power adapter, or a portable battery pack with a USB-A socket. You can alternatively wire the adapter permanently to an ignition switched and fused 12V supply.

Second, you need to connect the adapter to the ECU’s serial port with a serial cable. This will require removing the lid of the ECU to access the connector inside the ECU itself, or on later cars, a 3 pin connector is available near and outside the ECU.
Note: Some have filed a notch in the ECU’s lid in order to pass a flat serial cable through it (be mindful that the cable rubbing on metal parts could break or cause a short), or created a rectangle opening in the lid in order to leave the cable connected with the lid fitted back to the ECU.

Finally, when the ignition is ON, and the adapter powered up, the RSiAJP app will automatically connect to the ECU and start displaying data.

Can I purchase the adapter somewhere else?

In all honesty, you may find the same or similar adapter somewhere else, maybe even cheaper, however, I may not be able to support it. Not all adapters are made equal and the app is built for a specific adapter.

Moreover, the manufacturer I use sometimes changes firmware which requires modifications to the application, so purchasing even from the same manufacturer risks an incompatibility until I purchase stock (once/twice a year) and make the necessary modifications.

Finally, some adapters I’ve received have been dead on arrival, so I test every adapter before shipping for peace of mind.
